Jamaica and China
 

Jamaica established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1972. Since that time cooperation between the two countries has grown and the trade and economic links have increased signif-icantly. The friendship between the two countries continues to be affirmed and strengthened through important high level visits.
Vice President Zeng Qinghong paid an official visit to Jamaica February 1-3, 2005 on the occasion of the first China-Caribbean Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum and Trade Fair February 2-5, 2005. Vice-Premier Madame Wu Yi and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing made separate visits to Jamaica in 2003.

Jamaica at a Glance
 
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean Sea. It is located 898 kilometres southeast of Miami, 144.8 kilometres south of Cuba and 160.9 kilometres south west of Haiti. The island has an area of 11420 square kilometers; its highest point is the Blue Mountain Peak, which rises 2256 metres above sea level. The capital and major commercial centre, Kingston, is situated on the southeast coast. The Kingston Harbour is the seventh largest natural harbour in the world……

Jamaica is an ideal investment location. Its excellent business environment, well developed infrastructure, modern telecommunications and ideal location at the centre of the Americas make it a logical choice for business. Jamaica's liberal trade regime and beneficial trade arrangements with several countries offer great opportunities for increased investment and trade.
 
 
Travel & Tourism
 
Jamaica has long been recognized as one of the world's premier destinations. With over 100 years of experience in travel and tourism, Jamaica now has over 24,000 rooms and welcomes over 2 million visitors each year. Jamaica was designated an Approved Tourism destination for Chinese group travel in July of 2005.
 
 
 
Culture and Sports
 
Jamaica's vibrant cultural tradition and its popular music, reggae, has won international acclaim. The Hon. Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley is a global icon. In sports, Jamaica has gained global recognition in a number of fields especially in Track and Field where it has an impressive record of success in both the Olympic Games and World Championships. The tradition is being continued by a talented track and field team with current Olympic Champion female sprinter Veronica Campbell and world record holder Asafa Powell as standard bearers.
